King's Cabinet

The King’s Cabinet assists the King on political, judicial, legislative matters, in the field of communications and relations with the media, and in the diplomatic relations as Head of State. It liaises between the King and the federal, communities and regional governments, political and trade union circles, the media and foreign countries.

The Chef de Cabinet monitors political, economic and social developments in the country to keep the King informed. He proposes and prepares the King’s political audiences and assists the King in preparing his speeches.

The Deputy Chief of Cabinet and Diplomatic Advisor informs the king on international political developments and assists him in preparing his official visits abroad and prepares the King’s audiences on the international front.

The Deputy Chief of Cabinet and Legal Advisor examines documents submitted for the King to sign, and assists the Chief of Staff.

The Media and Communication Director and Deputy Director see to relations with the Belgian and international press and audio-visual media. They organise contacts with the media during public activities of the King, the Queen and members of the Royal Family. They coordinate the communication policy of the Royal Palace, including the management of the website of the Palace.

The Director of the Petitions and Social Affairs Service deals with petitions for social assistance addressed to the King, the Queen and other Members of the Royal Family. She advises the King on social matters and examines applications for royal favours (High Patronage, conferral of the “royal” title to organisations, honorary presidencies, sponsorships, etc.) and anniversary congratulations (weddings centennials).

The Economic Advisor advises the King on economic matters and prepares his audiences and visits in this field. She assists the member of the Royal Family dispatched by the King to preside over Belgian economic missions abroad organised jointly by the Regions and the Federal Agency for Foreign Trade, in coordination with the FPS Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Cooperation for Development.

The Archivist keeps and inventories the archives produced by the Palace’s services and departments, both those which still exist and those that have ceased to do so. He is also at the disposal of researchers who wish to consult the archives.
