Established in 1996, under the presidency of HRH Prince Laurent, the Prince Laurent Foundation for the welfare of domestic and wild animals aims to take any initiative in favour of the recognition and respect of the dignity of animals, whatever the species and whatever the role that man assigns to them.

Its activities are focused on four areas:

• veterinary dispensaries;
• the Belgian platform for alternative methods to animal experimentation;
• the " Equine Research & Welfare Fund "
• the Foundation's scientific prizes and awards.
